Meet our Committee

Al Senter, Events co-ordinator + membership development.
  • Al Senter
  • Events co-ordinator
  • Joined 1965, as an extremely nervous ' gyte'. Fortunate to spend my time at the High School equally divided between Regent Road and Barnton. Even more fortunate to be appointed School Captain for 1970/1971- it must have been a very poor year. After 4 years at Southampton University, I arrived in London to seek my fortune in October 1976 and I'm still looking. I've made a precarious living as a freelance journalist / writer / interviewer / broadcaster, specialising in drama both on stage and screen.

  • I attended the Royal High from 1960-71 achieving the hat-trick of attending Jocks Lodge, Regent Road and Barnton. My professional career, following on from four years at St. Andrew's University, was as an actuary working for various financial institutions. In recent years I have focussed more on various voluntary activities, for instance sitting as a magistrate, and on further education, completing a Politics and Society degree at Birkbeck. I am married with two teenage sons.

  • Valerie left the school in 1980 and has provided valuable input to the committee and helped with the planning of our events, in particular our September 2010 wine and tapas evening at Bacchanalia which was a big success with those attending.
Alex Prentice

  • Honorary Secretary
  • I was at the Royal High from 1966 to 1972 and I was very keen on sport. I played in the famous 1st XV that won all of its matches in the 1971-72 season and I was only stretchered off once ! When I left the school I moved to London for university (LSE) and then on to a variety of jobs in computing. I am currently a Systems Test Manager with BT.
As Secretary of the Royal High School Club in London I am always keen to hear from any former pupils living in the London area who can contact me on 01992-554854 or email alex.prentice1@btinternet.com

  • Started at Jocks Lodge in September 1972 following the family tradition into the school. Then to Barnton. Sporting prowess was marginal with a rugby career scarred by two factors: my 1st XV debut coming as a blind-side flanker and having to pack down in 2nd row with Ian Graham for a lot of that time! I rejoined the Choir in 6th year on the promise of a trip to Florence and Munich. Then Edinburgh Uni graduating with an MA in Politics and Modern History. Moved to London in 1990 and live in Kent. I work for the Civil Service running a range of government campaigns.
