As the Duke of Edinburgh will be performing his final official engagement today, it seems a good time to recall the Royal Visit to the school back on 4th July 1958. Here are some photos from Schola Regia and the newspapers.

I did not know that there was a website for this visit until I was checking information following Her Majesty’s passing.
I am the gymnast doing the handstand shown in the photo. I had to do my routine twice as the Duke was delayed.
I was the Pipe Major of the school CCF Pipe Band, which played when the Royal party inspected the Cadet Force prior to the other events. I also had the privilege of being the solo piper to play the Royal party off the premises when they departed through the ‘dungeons’. I can be seen in the photograph of the Royal car leaving. The tune chosen for me to play was ‘Happy we’ve been all together’. I played the same tune at the weddings of our 2 sons and our daughter!
