On Monday the 9th of December ten former pupils of the Royal High School met up at the Iron Duke pub for Christmas drinks. The fantastic Christmas decorations in nearby West End streets added to the atmosphere in the pub. When we had drinks in hand Eric Steedman reported good progress with the London Club’s campaign to raise money for the school’s RHS 900th Foundation. We also heard from Dr Brian Lang CBE who is a Trustee of the Royal High School Preservation Trust in Edinburgh. Brian updated us on progress with the transformation of the Old Royal High School into the Scottish National Centre for Music. We held our traditional Christmas raffle and Alistair Young was delighted to win a bottle of Talisker Skye single malt whisky. Club President Richard Steedman donated a bottle of fine claret and his brother Eric was the lucky winner. Miniature whiskies, ports and vodkas plus chocolate selections also found good homes. We broke up at around 9:30 p.m. and made our way home via crowded London Underground trains.
